Goodbye and rest in peace...
I hadn't been checking my Facebook for a week. Logged in a few minutes ago and found a message waiting in my inbox. A friend had forwarded me a shocking message from another friend, informing us that a JC classmate of ours had passed away last month from a car accident.
Although I had not keep in touch with Joline since JC, she was one of my most favourite people during that time.
I went to ACJC because I came from MGS, and majority of my friends were going there. What I did not count on was these friends fitting in so well with the 'kantang' culture there. Many of them became kantangs as well and hung out with people I could not click with.
Being a 'cheena' in their eyes, I felt out of place and spent more time arranging books in the library than at the void deck socializing with the rest. It was made worse when I was chosen as the Class Representative and Chinese Rep, had my braces installed, and my hair cut short into an auntie crop. An ugly cheena nagger!
But Joline always had kindness and a warm smile for me, and made me feel welcomed in class. She had a beautiful soul. I mourn her passing :(

There are some friends whom you cherish because of your past together. But as time passes and you grow up, there is nothing in common anymore, and no reason/excuse to keep in touch. In my list of friends, Joline belonged to this group.
I am looking at her Facebook profile now, one that I never knew existed or even thought to search for. Now, even if I 'add her as a friend', there will be no one to approve it. What happens to a profile without its owner? Sitting silently in cyberspace and waiting... and waiting... for...
