The recent Odex crackdown on illegal anime downloads led to a huge anti-Odex sentiment online, as even a 9-yr old boy was sued to pay $2,000. I personally don't think it was wrong for people to help translate anime and upload it so others can understand what's going on. Doesn't it help to cultivate love for anime, which in the end benefits the sellers?
If Odex didn't supply such equivalent versions of anime, I don't see how they can whine about being ripped-off. Pls, if you provide a good quality version with translation, people wouldn't mind going out to buy it (of cos at reasonable prices).
Chanced upon a newsfeed on this and realised that it had cumulated in a protest of sorts on 26 Aug (sorry lah I slow). A few guys went to Youth Park and did a protest in their own way. Four police trucks came and their IC numbers were recorded -_-"
As you know it's very easy to be charged for illegal gatherings in Singapore. Something I find really irritating, yet appreciate w.r.t. the freaky Falun Gong people at the Esplanade bridge. It's also amusing that this newsbite made it to the webpage of Singapore Democratic Party (do a web search) -- anything to help solidarise their position I guess.
The guys got around the problem by using their creativity.
