Actually, when I splurged $130 to send in my 13 entries, I didn't really think that my work was good enough to win. It was more of trying my luck, just to test how I stand as compared to the others. Some of my classmates were so hungry to be recognised for their talent that they threw in $600-800 to enter the same works in different categories so as to increase their chances of winning.
I could never do that. Firstly, no money. Secondly, even if I have the money, I can think of better things to spend it on. Maybe that again goes to show I'm not hungry enough for advertising. But I remember many advertising greats who wrote in their books that a real creative will always have self-doubts and wonder if his work can make the mark. So maybe that's why I am so humble hee hee (ok you can puke now). I am glad for the awards though, as it means I can finally raise my head in front of my internship boss & colleagues. I have (a little?) of what it takes and wasn't totally wasting their time.
3 out of my 13 entries made the mark. Quite sad...but also quite exciting if you think about the scale of the competition. Maybe I should get a little less humble now: Who is better? I who won 2 silvers and a bronze, or someone else who dumped more money and got close to 10 bronzes? Quality or quantity? If they are walking around now with their noses at the top of their heads, maybe it means I am at least justified to wear a smirk on my face for the next few weeks ;)
